३० जानेवारी हा दिवस भारतात शहीद दिवस (Martyrs' Day) म्हणून पाळला जातो. याच दिवशी महात्मा गांधींची पुण्यतिथी असल्यामुळे या दिवसाला विशेष महत्त्व आहे.

३० जानेवारी १९४८ रोजी नथूराम गोडसेने दिल्लीत बिर्ला हाऊस (आताचे गांधी स्मृती) येथे संध्याकाळच्या प्रार्थना सभेसाठी जात असताना महात्मा गांधींवर गोळ्या झाडल्या.

शहीद दिवसाचे महत्त्व

लक्ष्मणशास्त्री जोशी (जानेवारी २७, १९०१ - मे २७, १९९४) हे महाराष्ट्रातील एक थोर विचारवंत, संस्कृत पंडित, लेखक, कोशकार आणि सामाजिक शास्त्रांचे अभ्यासक-संशोधक होते. त्यांचा जन्म खानदेशातील पिंपळनेर येथे झाला.

शिक्षण आणि युवावस्था: 

वयाच्या १४ व्या वर्षी वाई येथील प्राज्ञ पाठशाळेत शिक्षण सुरू. स्वामी केवलानंद सरस्वती (नारायणशास्त्री मराठे) यांचे मार्गदर्शन. 

१९१८ मध्ये न्यायशास्त्राच्या अभ्यासासाठी वाराणसीला प्रयाण. राजेश्वरशास्त्री द्रविड आणि वामाचरण भट्टाचार्य यांच्या मार्गदर्शनाखाली न्यायशास्त्राचे अध्ययन. 

१९२२ मध्ये कलकत्ता येथील शासकीय संस्कृत महाविद्यालयातून ‘तर्कतीर्थ’ पदवी प्राप्त. 

१९१७ मध्ये विनोबा भावे यांच्याकडून इंग्रजीचे प्राथमिक शिक्षण आणि स्वतःच्या प्रयत्नांनी इंग्रजी व पाश्चात्त्य विद्यांचा अभ्यास.

सामाजिक आणि राजकीय कार्य: 

१९३० पासून धर्मसुधारणा आंदोलनात सहभाग. 

महात्मा गांधींच्या नेतृत्वाखाली स्वातंत्र्य लढ्यात सक्रिय सहभाग आणि १९३० व १९३२ मध्ये कारावास. 

१९३६ मध्ये मानवेंद्रनाथ रॉय यांच्या नवमानववादाचा प्रभाव आणि ‘भारतीय प्रबोधनाचे प्रसादचिन्ह’ म्हणून गौरव.

संभाजी महाराज, छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांचे ज्येष्ठ पुत्र, हे केवळ एक पराक्रमी योद्धा नव्हते, तर एक कुशल प्रशासक, विद्वान आणि धर्मनिष्ठ शासकही होते. त्यांचा राज्याभिषेक दिन हा महाराष्ट्राच्या इतिहासातील एक महत्त्वाचा दिवस आहे, जो शौर्य, स्वाभिमान आणि स्वराज्याच्या रक्षणासाठी केलेल्या बलिदानाचा उत्सव म्हणून साजरा केला जातो.

१६ जानेवारी १६८१ रोजी रायगडावर संभाजी महाराजांचा राज्याभिषेक झाला. हा दिवस केवळ एका व्यक्तीचा राज्याभिषेक नव्हता, तर एका नव्या पर्वाची सुरुवात होती. छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांच्या निधनानंतर स्वराज्याची धुरा समर्थपणे सांभाळण्याची जबाबदारी संभाजी महाराजांवर आली होती. अत्यंत कठीण परिस्थितीत, मुघलांचे प्रचंड सैन्य आणि अंतर्गत शत्रूंचा सामना करत त्यांनी स्वराज्याचे रक्षण केले.

संभाजी महाराजांचा कार्यकाळ हा संघर्षमय होता. त्यांनी आपल्या अल्पशा कारकिर्दीत अनेक लढाया जिंकल्या आणि स्वराज्याची सीमा सुरक्षित ठेवली. त्यांची मुघलांविरुद्धची झुंज इतिहासात अजरामर आहे. त्यांनी आपल्या पराक्रमाने औरंगजेबाला सळो की पळो करून सोडले होते. त्यांच्या शौर्याची गाथा आजही आपल्याला प्रेरणा देत आहे.

संभाजी महाराजांचे केवळ शौर्यच नव्हे, तर त्यांची विद्वत्ताही असामान्य होती. ते अनेक भाषांचे ज्ञाते होते आणि त्यांनी 'बुधभूषण' आणि 'नायिकाभेद' यांसारख्या ग्रंथांची रचना केली. त्यांच्या प्रशासकीय कौशल्याचीही इतिहासात नोंद आहे. त्यांनी प्रजेच्या हिताचे अनेक निर्णय घेतले आणि सुशासन स्थापित केले.

भारताच्या इतिहासात काही व्यक्ती अशा आहेत ज्यांच्या साधेपणामुळे आणि उच्च विचारांमुळे त्यांनी लोकांच्या हृदयात एक विशेष स्थान निर्माण केले आहे. लाल बहादूर शास्त्री हे त्यापैकीच एक. त्यांचा जन्म २ ऑक्टोबर १८०४ रोजी उत्तर प्रदेशातील मुघलसराई येथे झाला. त्यांनी आपल्या कारकिर्दीत देशाला अनेक महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान दिले. विशेषतः, १९६५ च्या भारत-पाकिस्तान युद्धाच्या काळात त्यांनी देशाला खंबीर नेतृत्व दिले. ‘जय जवान, जय किसान’ हा त्यांचा नारा आजही प्रत्येक भारतीयाच्या मनात स्फूर्ती निर्माण करतो.

शास्त्रीजींचे जीवन अत्यंत साधे होते. ते दिखाऊपणात विश्वास ठेवणारे नव्हते. त्यांच्या साधेपणामुळेच ते सर्वसामान्यांचे नेते बनले. त्यांनी देशाच्या विकासासाठी कठोर परिश्रम घेतले. त्यांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली भारताने अन्नधान्याच्या उत्पादनात स्वावलंबन मिळवण्याचा प्रयत्न केला. त्यांनी ‘हरित क्रांती’ आणि ‘श्वेत क्रांती’ यांसारख्या योजनांना प्रोत्साहन दिले, ज्यामुळे देशाच्या कृषी आणि दुग्धोत्पादनात मोठी वाढ झाली.

१९६६ मध्ये ताश्कंद येथे भारत आणि पाकिस्तानच्या दरम्यान झालेल्या शांतता करारात शास्त्रीजींनी महत्त्वाची भूमिका बजावली. या करारावर स्वाक्षरी केल्यानंतर काही तासांतच ११ जानेवारी १९६६ रोजी त्यांचे रहस्यमय परिस्थितीत निधन झाले. त्यांच्या निधनाने संपूर्ण देशावर शोककळा पसरली. त्यांच्या मृत्यूचे रहस्य आजही उलगडलेले नाही, ज्यामुळे अनेक प्रश्न आजही अनुत्तरित आहेत.
