Buddha Purnima, also known as Vesak, is one of the most significant festivals in the Buddhist tradition. It commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death (Parinirvana) of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. This auspicious day is celebrated on the full moon day of the Vaisakha month, which usually falls in April or May, depending on the lunar calendar. In 2025, Buddha Purnima will be observed on May 12.
Significance of Buddha Purnima:
Buddha Purnima holds immense spiritual importance for Buddhists and is a day of reflection, meditation, and reverence. The three key events in the life of Lord Buddha—his birth, enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, and his passing into Parinirvana—are celebrated on this day, symbolizing the path to enlightenment and the ultimate truth.

Birth: Buddha was born as Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, Nepal, around 563 BCE.

National Technology Day – India
National Technology Day is observed in India every year on May 11 to commemorate the nation’s technological achievements, especially in the field of science and innovation. The day marks a significant milestone in India’s history — the successful nuclear tests conducted at Pokhran, Rajasthan, in 1998, under the leadership of then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
These tests, known as Operation Shakti, demonstrated India’s scientific and technological advancement and established it as a nuclear power. The day also celebrates other major achievements in aerospace, defense, and engineering, including the successful test flight of Hansa-3, India’s first indigenous aircraft, and advancements in missile technology under the leadership of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Maharana Pratap Jayanti
Maharana Pratap Jayanti commemorates the birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap, one of the greatest and most valiant Rajput warriors in Indian history. He was born on May 9, 1540, in Kumbhalgarh, Rajasthan, and belonged to the Sisodia dynasty of Mewar.
Maharana Pratap is remembered for his unyielding resistance against the Mughal Empire, especially his legendary battle against Emperor Akbar at the Battle of Haldighati in 1576. Despite being heavily outnumbered, he refused to bow to Mughal dominance and continued to fight for the independence of Mewar throughout his life.
His courage, leadership, and deep sense of honor made him a symbol of Rajput pride and valor. Maharana Pratap’s loyal horse Chetak, who fought bravely alongside him, is also celebrated for his loyalty and bravery.
Maharana Pratap Jayanti is observed mainly in Rajasthan and other northern states of India, with cultural programs, processions, and tributes at memorials. People honor his legacy by remembering his heroic deeds and commitment to freedom and dignity.

World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is celebrated every year on May 8 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Born on May 8, 1828, in Geneva, Dunant was also the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
This day honors the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and recognizes the invaluable humanitarian efforts made by its volunteers and members around the world. It is also a day to raise awareness about the plight of people suffering from food shortages, natural disasters, armed conflicts, and epidemics.
World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities by providing basic amenities, medical assistance, and humanitarian aid. Both governmental and private organizations actively participate in relief efforts to help those in need during times of crisis.
