Maharana Pratap Jayanti
Maharana Pratap Jayanti commemorates the birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap, one of the greatest and most valiant Rajput warriors in Indian history. He was born on May 9, 1540, in Kumbhalgarh, Rajasthan, and belonged to the Sisodia dynasty of Mewar.
Maharana Pratap is remembered for his unyielding resistance against the Mughal Empire, especially his legendary battle against Emperor Akbar at the Battle of Haldighati in 1576. Despite being heavily outnumbered, he refused to bow to Mughal dominance and continued to fight for the independence of Mewar throughout his life.
His courage, leadership, and deep sense of honor made him a symbol of Rajput pride and valor. Maharana Pratap’s loyal horse Chetak, who fought bravely alongside him, is also celebrated for his loyalty and bravery.
Maharana Pratap Jayanti is observed mainly in Rajasthan and other northern states of India, with cultural programs, processions, and tributes at memorials. People honor his legacy by remembering his heroic deeds and commitment to freedom and dignity.
