World NGO Day
World NGO Day, observed annually on February 27th, is a global celebration of the incredible efforts of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in addressing social, environmental, and humanitarian issues. It is a day to honor their dedication, raise awareness, and inspire collective action to support their mission.
Theme for 2025: “Empowering Grassroots Movements for a Sustainable Future”
This year’s theme highlights the crucial role of local NGOs in fostering sustainable development and driving meaningful social change. By strengthening grassroots initiatives, NGOs can create long-term solutions and empower communities worldwide.
History and Significance
World NGO Day was first proposed in 2009 by Marcis Liors Skadmanis, a social entrepreneur from Latvia. It gained official recognition in 2010 through the Baltic Sea NGO Forum. Since then, this day has been observed globally, recognizing the invaluable contributions of nonprofits and civil society organizations in over 89 countries.
On this special day, individuals and organizations worldwide come together to celebrate, appreciate, and encourage the incredible work of NGOs. Join the movement and be a part of the change!
