National Science Day 28/02/2025

Library of Smt. Kasturbai Walchand College Sangli     February 28, 2025     No comments

National Science Day

National Science Day was first observed in 1987, following a proposal by the National Council for Science and Technology and Communications. The Indian government accepted the proposal and declared February 28 as National Science Day to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect and highlight its significance.

India celebrates this day annually to emphasize the role of science in societal progress, acknowledge the nation's scientific heritage, and honor the contributions of Indian scientists to global knowledge.

The Discovery of the Raman Effect

In 1928, C.V. Raman and K.S. Krishnan discovered the Raman Effect, which demonstrated that light undergoes a shift in wavelength when it interacts with the molecules of a substance. This phenomenon showed that scattered light carries valuable information about molecular vibrations, making it a crucial tool in fields such as medicine, chemistry, physics, and material science. This groundbreaking discovery earned C.V. Raman the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.

Theme for National Science Day 2025

Each year, National Science Day is celebrated with a unique theme. The theme for 2025 is:
“Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for VIKSIT Bharat.”

This theme sets the foundation for seminars, discussions, and events, particularly at Vigyan Bhawan, focusing on nurturing young minds and fostering innovation to position India as a global leader in science and technology.

Library of Smt. Kasturbai Walchand College Sangli     February 24, 2025     No comments

(World Printing Day)

Happy Indian Coast Guard Day: 01/02/2025

Library of Smt. Kasturbai Walchand College Sangli     February 02, 2025     No comments

Every year on February 1st, India celebrates its Coast Guard Day, a day to acknowledge and appreciate the tireless service and unwavering dedication of the men and women who protect our vast coastline. From the bustling ports of Mumbai and Chennai to the serene shores of Goa and the remote islands of the Andaman and Nicobar, the Indian Coast Guard stands vigilant, ensuring the safety and security of our maritime borders. They are the silent guardians, the first line of defense against a multitude of threats, and their contributions to the nation are immeasurable.

The Indian Coast Guard, though a relatively young force compared to other branches of the Indian Armed Forces, has carved a niche for itself with its professionalism and efficiency. Established in 1978, it has evolved from a small force with limited resources to a formidable maritime security agency. Their responsibilities are diverse and demanding, encompassing everything from preventing smuggling and illegal immigration to conducting search and rescue operations in treacherous seas. They are the protectors of our fishermen, the enforcers of maritime laws, and the guardians of our marine environment.

Think of the countless times they've braved stormy seas to rescue stranded fishermen, or intercepted vessels attempting to smuggle contraband, or patrolled our waters to deter any nefarious activity. These are just a few examples of the crucial role the Coast Guard plays in safeguarding our national interests. They are often the unsung heroes, working tirelessly behind the scenes, away from the public eye, to ensure the safety and security of our nation. Their commitment to duty, their courage in the face of adversity, and their unwavering dedication to the nation are truly commendable.

Beyond their core duties, the Indian Coast Guard also plays a vital role in disaster relief and humanitarian assistance. During natural calamities like cyclones and floods, they are often the first responders, providing crucial support and rescuing those in need. Their ability to operate in challenging conditions and their well-equipped fleet make them an invaluable asset in times of crisis. They are a symbol of hope, a beacon of strength, and a testament to the spirit of service that defines the Indian Coast Guard.

On this Indian Coast Guard Day, let us take a moment to express our gratitude to these brave men and women who stand guard day and night, protecting our shores and ensuring our maritime security. Let us salute their courage, their dedication, and their unwavering commitment to the nation. Let us acknowledge their invaluable contributions and celebrate their vital role in safeguarding India's maritime interests. Happy Indian Coast Guard Day!
