पत्रकार दिन : दर्पण दिन 

पत्रकारिता ही लोकशाहीचा चौथा स्तंभ मानली जाते. समाजातील घडामोडी, समस्या आणि सत्य जनतेपर्यंत पोहोचवण्याचे महत्त्वाचे कार्य पत्रकार करतात. मराठी पत्रकारितेच्या इतिहासात ६ जानेवारी हा दिवस विशेष महत्त्वाचा आहे.

६ जानेवारी १८३२ रोजी बाळशास्त्री जांभेकर यांनी मराठीतील पहिले वृत्तपत्र ‘दर्पण’ सुरू केले. त्यामुळे या दिवसाला दर्पण दिन किंवा पत्रकार दिन म्हणून साजरा केला जातो.

महत्त्वाची नोंद अशी की ६ जानेवारी हा बाळशास्त्री जांभेकर यांचा जन्मदिन नाही. त्यांचा जन्म २० फेब्रुवारी १८१२ रोजी झाला असून, मृत्यू १७ मे १८४८ रोजी झाला. या तारखा शासनाने निश्चित केलेल्या आहेत.

दर्पण हे वृत्तपत्र सामान्य जनतेसाठी मराठी भाषेत प्रकाशित केले गेले. त्याचबरोबर ब्रिटिश सत्ताधाऱ्यांना स्थानिक लोकांच्या अडचणी कळाव्यात म्हणून त्यात इंग्रजी भाषेतील स्तंभही होता. नफा नव्हे, तर समाजप्रबोधन हा त्याचा मुख्य उद्देश होता.

ब्रिटिश काळात वृत्तपत्र चालवणे कठीण असतानाही दर्पण हे वृत्तपत्र १८३२ ते १८४० या काळात प्रकाशित होत राहिले. बाळशास्त्री जांभेकर यांचे कार्य मराठी पत्रकारितेसाठी प्रेरणादायी ठरले.

आजच्या काळातही पत्रकारितेने सत्य, निर्भयता आणि सामाजिक बांधिलकी जपणे अत्यंत आवश्यक आहे. पत्रकार दिन हा या मूल्यांची आठवण करून देणारा महत्त्वाचा दिवस आहे.

सावित्रीबाई फुले जयंती दरवर्षी ३ जानेवारी रोजी भारतातील महान समाजसुधारिका, शिक्षणतज्ज्ञ, कवयित्री आणि स्त्री शिक्षणाच्या अग्रदूत क्रांतिज्योती सावित्रीबाई फुले (१८३१–१८९७) यांच्या जन्मदिनी साजरी केली जाते.

महत्त्व

सावित्रीबाई फुले यांना भारताच्या पहिल्या महिला शिक्षिका म्हणून ओळखले जाते. त्यांनी आपल्या पती महात्मा ज्योतिराव फुले यांच्या सहकार्याने भारतात स्त्री शिक्षणाची मुहूर्तमेढ रोवली. त्यांनी जातिभेद, अस्पृश्यता, बालविवाह आणि स्त्री-असमानता यांसारख्या सामाजिक कुप्रथांविरोधात आयुष्यभर संघर्ष केला.

महत्वाचे कार्य

• इ.स. १८४८ मध्ये पुणे येथे मुलींसाठी पहिली शाळा सुरू केली
