World Environment Day : 05/06/2025

Library of Smt. Kasturbai Walchand College Sangli     June 05, 2025     No comments

World Environment Day 2025 will be celebrated on June 5, with the theme “ Beat Plastic Pollution.”  This year’s global host is the Republic of Korea, with the main events taking place in Jeju Province.

Plastic pollution remains one of the most urgent environmental challenges of our time—threatening ecosystems, endangering wildlife, and affecting human health. The 2025 campaign aims to highlight the mounting scientific evidence on plastic pollution and mobilize global efforts to refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink how we use plastics.

This marks the second time the Republic of Korea is hosting World Environment Day—the first was in 1997. Since then, the country has made significant progress in improving air and water quality, managing chemical safety, and conserving natural ecosystems.

Jeju Province, the host location, has set an ambitious target to become free of plastic pollution by 2040. It has introduced progressive measures such as mandatory waste separation and a disposable cup deposit system to boost recycling rates and reduce waste.

World Environment Day 2025 serves as a powerful reminder that collective action—at individual, community, and national levels—is essential to tackling plastic pollution and protecting our planet’s future.
